In January, Supercell had one of the best commercials during the Super Bowl. It featured Liam Neeson playing Clash of Clans, but in character from his Taken films.
The most recent foray into advertising leaves Neeson behind, but picks up one of the 80s most bombastic movie themes. If you haven’t seen Flash Gordon, starring Sam Jones and Max von Sydow, it’s perfect encapsulation of the neon decade.

One of the highlights is Queen’s theme, which is bombastic and bright. Freddy Mercury wails as only he can, making this a perfect fit as part of the band’s catalog, even out of context.
Someone at Supercell’s ad agency seems to have fond memories of the tune, also. And given that “Clash” rhymes with “Flash”, well, you can imagine how that turned out.
