Replay Game Boy's Metroid II In Full Color Thanks To Fan Remake

Way back on August 6, 1986, gamers suited up as Metroid's Samus Aran for the very first time to take down space pirates on planet Zebes. Now, thirty years (and one day) later, fans can revisit one of the original games in the franchise.

Up until now, we've only been able to play Samus' second adventure in the Game Boy's sickly green hue. Now, we can revisit the game in full color on PC thanks to a fan remake called AM2R.

Metroid II: Return of Samus has been remade in the style of Metroid: Zero Mission. For those that never played the original Game Boy version, this is an opportunity to experience one of the most important moments in the story. Samus ventures to the Metroid home world in an attempt to eradicate the parasitic species completely.

The team says this is only the first release, with more updates planned. You can download it from the AM2R website.

Our Take
Nintendo is still selling the original Metroid II on 3DS for $4. It'll be quite interesting to see if the publisher lets this fan effort slide or takes steps to shut it down.

If this is something you're interested in, you might not want to sleep on it. The plug could get pulled at any moment.
