Developer Sabotage Studio has announced a new indie platformer, The Messenger, that invokes the NES classic Ninja Gaiden.
The new game, a sidescroller designed to look like Tecmo's tough-as-nails ninja action game, looks like a perfectly suitable spiritual sequel on its own. Perhaps unfortunately, the initial trailer spoils what looks to be the game's hook, that the story spans multiple generations of video game technology. At the end of the teaser, the main character jumps into a portal and emerges a with new armor, a spiffy new hat, and 16-bit graphics.
The Messenger is scheduled for release later this year for "PCs and consoles." Check out the teaser trailer below.
